FRACTIONAL EXCRETION OF SODIUM Test: Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Cost
DNA Labs India offers the Fractional Excretion of Sodium (FENa) test, which measures the amount of sodium filtered by the kidneys and excreted in the urine. This test is used to diagnose and monitor kidney diseases, such as acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of certain medications.
Symptoms of Kidney Disease
Kidney disease often has no symptoms in the early stages. As the disease progresses, symptoms may include:
- Swelling in the hands, feet, or face
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue
- Difficulty sleeping
- Changes in urination frequency or color
- High blood pressure
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important to see a doctor for evaluation and treatment.
Diagnosis of Kidney Disease
Kidney disease can be diagnosed through a variety of tests, including:
- Blood tests to measure kidney function
- Urine tests to check for protein or blood in the urine
- Imaging tests, such as an ultrasound or CT scan
- Kidney biopsy to examine a small sample of kidney tissue
The FENa test is often used in conjunction with these other tests to help diagnose and monitor kidney disease.
What is the FENa Test?
The FENa test measures the amount of sodium filtered by the kidneys and excreted in the urine. The test compares the amount of sodium in the urine to the amount of sodium in the blood, which helps determine how well the kidneys are functioning.
The FENa test is often used to diagnose and monitor acute kidney injury, which is a sudden and temporary loss of kidney function. The test can also be used to evaluate the effectiveness of diuretic medications, which are used to treat conditions such as high blood pressure and heart failure.
Cost of the FENa Test
The cost of the FENa test at DNA Labs India is INR 877.5. This cost includes the test itself as well as any related consultations or follow-up appointments.
If you are experiencing symptoms of kidney disease or have been diagnosed with a kidney condition, talk to your doctor about whether the FENa test is right for you.
Overall, the FENa test is a useful tool in diagnosing and monitoring kidney disease. With the help of this test, doctors can better understand how well the kidneys are functioning and develop an appropriate treatment plan. Contact DNA Labs India today to schedule your FENa test.
Fractional excretion of Sodium (FeNa) is the fraction of filtered sodium load that is reabsorbed by the tubules and is a measure of both the kidneys ability to reabsorb sodium as well as endogenous and exogenous factors that affect tubular reabsorption. With prerenal azotemia, FeNa is usually <1% suggesting avid tubular sodium reabsorption. Low FeNa is often seen in Glomerulonephritis, hence should not be considered synonymous with intravascular volume depletion and should not be used as a sole guide for volume management. In ischemic AKI, FeNa is frequently >1% because of tubular injury and resultant inability to reabsorb sodium.
